Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When is Spring Bravo Camp held?
    1. Spring Bravo Camp is held each year during schools’ most popular Spring Break weeks.

  1. What age groups can participate?
    1. All students in Grades 3-8.

  1. Where is Spring Bravo camp held?
    1. At our Command Center in Westwood (1105 Gayley Avenue, corner of Kinross and Gayley).

  1. What do the children do all week?
    1. Depending on their courses, children can direct movies, design video games, piece together music, produce animated websites, or explore and edit photography.  Children play with technology, and in the process, develop their analytical reasoning skills and technology know-how.

  1.  Where do we drop-off / pick-up?
    1. Drop-off: Since we are located very close to the corner of Kinross and Gayley (west side of the street), we recommend pulling right up to the corner of Gayley and Kinross.  We will be there greeting the campers every day of camp from 8:30am and 9:00am.  We will help them right into the lab.  It’s very easy.  For easiest access, try entering Kinross from Veteran Ave. (west of Gayley) and coming in that direction.  Kinross is very empty at that time and will allow even easier access to stopping near our corner.  You’ll see us out there.
    2. Parking:  We are lucky.  We have a parking lot located right in the back of our building off of Kinross. It’s $1.80 for half hour, but there is also free parking located on Broxton (one block northeast of us).  There are many lots located within walking distance, as well as meters.

  1. How does instruction take place?
    1. The instruction and work period takes place four times every day.  Each work period lasts about an hour and 15 minutes, and has the campers working individually and in groups.  Throughout the periods, learners create various projects and come together for instructional reviews periodically.
Instructors group the campers together by grade levels and give mini lessons to individuals based on abilities and progress.  Since the curriculum is project-based, classes have students working at their own pace.  The instructor merely sets them on the right path for each new endeavor.

  2. Who are the instructors?
    1. PlanetBravo is very proud of its highly-skilled and trained technology instructors.  Each instructor has worked with children extensively and studied technology in various advanced fields.

  1. When do the campers get breaks?
    1. Break times at camp are mandatory and occur four times a day.  Two breaks are held outside the lab for fresh air, sunshine and snacks, while the other two are for outdoor game activities and lunch.

  1. Where do campers play outdoors?
    1. We love our location!  We are really close to  a beautiful park. Every day we bring our lunches across the street to Westwood Recreation Park.  We play organized sports there as well as non-physical activities for those who are interested (board games, cards, etc.).

  1.  Is there a dress code for camp?
    1. Although there is not an official dress code for camp, we do ask that our campers come prepared to play.  We are not sitting at computers all day long.  We play outside at the park and therefore ask that students do not wear open-toe shoes or extremely loose or baggy clothing.  We also do not permit clothing with inappropriate messages on them. Other than that, come comfortable!

  1. What do campers do about lunch?
    1. For Spring Bravo Camp, campers are required to bring a sack lunch each day of the camp week.  Snacks will be provided by the camp during the day.

  1. How is the camp’s security?
    1. We are located in the safe neighborhood of Westwood Village.  Our camp is held in the back of our lab at 1105 Gayley Ave.  We have a complete video surveillance system as well as strict adult supervision at all times.  No campers are ever left to do any activity on their own away from the counselors. We also review our strict guidelines with the students in a meeting at the beginning of the week and periodically during group activities.

  1. What is the Celebrity for a Week course (Grades 3-8)?
    1. Designed for the students who love to be stars, this course teaches our campers how to edit photography, mix music, produce digital video and much more all by making THE STUDENTS the stars of the show.  Students use Photoshop, Pinnacle Studio, ACID Music and more to bring themselves into the movies. It’s loads of fun.

  1. What is the Claymation Creation course (Grades 3-8)?
    1. Simply put, we bring clay to life in a movie!  This course focuses on stop-motion animation.  We start with lessons on clay sculpting and move onto video camera stop-motion lessons.  The students create their own characters, stories, and then edit them all together on video at the end of the week.  We add music and special effects, too!  Lots of fun.

  1. What is the Game Design course? (Grades 3-8)
    1. Students in the Game Design course will create colorful, high-level thinking video games using Multimedia Fusion.  Games will range from simple sporting games like Pong, to advanced platform games with clear objectives (like Super Mario Bros).  Campers also make their own soundtracks for their games with music-editing software.  Students leave camp with a CD copy of their video games.

  1. What is the Web Design course (Grades 3-8)?
    1. Students design their own websites using the latest software (FrontPage and Flash).  Websites will contain multiple pages, themes and more.  Students can access their pages from home and even edit them for years to come!

  1.   How do campers bring home their projects?
    1. All campers receive CD copies of their work files and finalized versions of their projects.  The final versions of the projects will play on home “Windows” (PC) computers even if you do not have the software used in class.  Most work can be played on Macintosh computers as well.  NOTE: We are also introducing a special download section of our website where students can log in and get transfer their work to and from home.

  1.  Can my child switch courses after camp starts?
    1. Absolutely.  No problem! We like to make any changes by the end of the day on Monday or early Tuesday so they have as much time as possible to get settled into their programs.

  1.  What if I am late arriving or picking up?
    1. If for any reason you will not be on time for drop-off or pick-up, a phone number will be provided for you to reach us.  A staff member will be with your child until you arrive.  If tardiness is excessive, a late fee may be assessed.

  1.  What network games do the students play?
    1. The camp begins and ends each day with a network game time.  Games range from strategy favorites StarCraft, to fast-paced thrill rides like Armagetron.

  1. Is it true you have a karaoke stage?
    1. Is it ever!?!? At our new location, we have not only added a brand-new karaoke stage, we have turned it into a green-screen soundstage for special effects while you’re singing.  We love it!

  1. What kinds of computers do the students use?
    1. The students use brand-new Dell Computer systems running Windows XP Professional with Pentium 4 – 2.8GHz Dual Core processors.  The computers each have 1 GB RAM and 250 GB Hard drives.  Students log -in using secure usernames and passwords and store their work on a brand-new Windows Server 2003 that is backed-up every night.
