Course Overview:

While creating entertaining works of art with technology, campers are learning the most advanced inner-workings of computers available for home and business use today.
Campers at Techno-tainment set their own individualized pace on the software.  Our counselors understand that the children enter with different ability levels and experiences.  Students all begin with a morning lesson and quite quickly expand on those lessons themselves.  Our counselors provide project ideas and directions to all students and oversee their growth throughout each day.  Counselors run individualized lessons on the spot for students continuously.
Much of the software used at Techno-tainment is simple enough that initial instruction goes a long way.  Once students immerse themselves in the programs, they can go for entire instructional periods just producing their projects.  We have seen that students prefer to work in this self-paced style as opposed to continuously stopping for group lessons.  Most of the lessons are individualized and on-the-spot.
The instructional system at Techno-tainment has been proven to work in technology classes of 30 students with one teacher and camps with our 8:1 ratio.

Ages 9-14

2.   Digital Video Editing (Click here to see about software we use)
Campers use Sony and JVC Digital Video cameras, Pinnacle Studio editing software, Macromedia Flash animation software, and ACID Music software to create their own customized digital videos. Students leave camp with a CD containing their finished videos.

3.   Intro to Game Design
(Click here to see about software we use)
Campers use Multimedia Fusion authoring software to create (and play) their own video games.  This course is recommended for any child who has never used game design software before or campers from last summer who want to further explore the Multimedia Fusion software. Naturally, campers here will also use ACID Music software to create their own customized game soundtracks.  Campers leave camp with a CD containing their finished video games.

4.   Advanced Game Design
(Click here to see about software we use)
Campers must take Intro to Game Design before taking this course.  Although this course is open to Ages 9-14, it is strongly recommended for Ages 11-14 only.  (Some of our 9-year-old computer prodigies have surprised us in the past).  Campers use Macromedia Flash as well as other authoring programs to develop advanced web-based games.  Campers leave camp with a CD containing their finished video games as well as with online links to their work.

5.   Techno-tainment Tournament Track (for returners)
(Click here to see about software we use)
The "Track" is a chance for campers to enroll in a course focused on professional development in either video production or game design. Campers are encouraged to design ONE professional looking project in either field they choose.  Their final games will be entered in a game showcase tournament while the movies will be entered in an "academy screening" contest where participants will vote for different categories.  All entries in both fields (movies and games) will be awarded.  If campers wish to design their own songs with lyrics, this is encouraged and will be rewarded as well.

Campers, Be Prepared:  This is not a course to take if you are uncomfortable with basic elements in Game Design or Video Production.  If you took a Multimedia Fusion or Pinnacle Studio class already and are not sure if you remember how to do the basics, we recommend enrolling in the regular Video Production or Advanced Game Design courses first, and if returning another week this summer, then shoot for the Tournament Track.  It is competitive and designed for those who like to show off their skills.  It's going to be a blast, but be prepared to go deeper into your work than ever before.  We're looking for high-quality projects that you can call your own!

6.  Animated Website Design
(Click here to see about software we use)
Campers use Macromedia Flash and Microsoft FrontPage to create animated web pages.  The web pages are theme-based and posted on-line for the world to see.  Because Techno-tainment Camp focuses on technology for entertainment purposes, the web pages contain original music and original photography and art work.  Campers leave camp with a CD containing their work files and a link to their web pages.

7.  3D Animation
(Click here to see about software we use)
Campers use Hash Animation software to design 3D computer animations.  This technology is sweeping through the entertainment industry and is found in most major motion pictures today.  ACID Music software also used. Campers leave camp with a CD containing their work files and rendered animations.
