Celebrating a Decade of Summer Fun in 2012!
PlanetBravo is like a
dream come true for today's creative kids. Our camps will introduce
them to the latest tools in technology, reinforce their pre-existing
skills, and provide them with the tools to apply what they learn in
their everyday lives, while at the same time allowing them to make
new friends, build confidence, and come away with an experience
they'll never forget. Whether they're creating their own video
games, filming their own movies, animating in 2D or 3D, building
robots or enjoying any of our other incredible course offerings,
every student will bring their imagination to life, then share it
with the world as they take their projects (and so much new
knowledge!) home or post it online.
Sure, there are other camps that use technology for creative
projects.

HOW CAMP WORKS
•
Techno-tainment Summer Camp runs one-week sessions
Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm for students entering grades 2-9.
•
Students
sign-up for one week-long course at a time from the
list of available options. Students who sign up for multiple weeks
may take all different courses, or repeat some of their favorites,
since all our classes have a wealth of possible projects to
complete.
•
Each day is
balanced with a healthy mix of indoor and outdoor activities,
including afternoon sports, snack break, and the ever popular
computer games of Network Game Time. There are always multiple
activity options during these time to ensure all students find
something they enjoy.
•
Every student gets his/her own computer workstation.
•
At the end of the week, parents
are welcomed into our classroom for a closing award ceremony
and open house where students can show off their work and
are recognized for their accomplishments.

This has quickly become our most popular class for
the younger age group. Students will start by
building with LEGO bricks, creating a scene and a
story in their imaginations. Then, using stop-motion
animation techniques, they will make that dream
become a reality, making the LEGO characters seem to
come alive and move on their own!

Using an MIT developed, free to download program
called Scratch, students will learn how to make
animations, sound boards, and a host of different
games. Rather than writing out lines of code,
Scratch uses an easy to understand drag-and-drop
programming method, allowing our students to
complete multiple projects in one week. Best of all,
completed games and cartoons are posted live to the
internet for anyone to see!

Our most popular class 10 years running, Fusion 101 introduces
students to ClickTeam’s Multimedia Fusion 2. In the course of a
week, students will turn a blank white screen into a fully
functional video game by adding characters, backgrounds and more
from a massive library of cool sprites. All completed games (and
yes, some students will make several) are exported in a format that
can be played on any computer, as well as posted online!

NEW in 2012! Picking
up where Fusion 101 leaves off, Freestyle Fusion
introduce more advanced game styles (multiplayer,
RPG, escape), techniques (spriting, advanced enemy
AI), while also exploring the huge variety of
movement options Fusion provides. The counselor
focuses on introducing skills as opposed to guiding
projects, allowing for more variety and creativity
in games created.

NEW in 2012! Newly
released by ClickTeam, the iOS exporter allows
students to design games in Fusion that can be played on the iPhone, iPod, and iPad.
Please note:
Students will not leave camp with their games on
their personal iOS devices, but will be given
instructions on how to play them on Macs from home.
Loading the student games onto an actual iOS device
(iPhone, iPad) requires an Apple Developer account,
as well as a $99/year fee through Apple.
Mac OS 10.6 or higher will be required to play the
games at home through the iOS simulator. Either way,
this course is a wonderful experience for students
as they dive into the advanced real-world
app-development process.

all the equipment you need (cameras, tripods,
microphones, green screens, editing software and
more), what could you make in a week? The Digital
Shorts class allows students to work as a group to
create their own short films, music videos, or even
choose your own adventure stories! Though the
filming is done together, every student will edit
their own final cut.

year of this class in 2011, and it’s back once again
for 2012. Using LEGO bricks, clay, and even people,
students will bring still images to life using
point-and-shoot cameras and Adobe Premiere Elements. Make
the same amazing style of videos that can be seen

NEW in 2012! Students
in this course will begin by learning to properly
and skillfully use a DSLR camera, learning about
framing, focus, shutter speed, depth of field, and
more. After a solid library of photos has been
collected, students will learn how to edit and
enhance their photos, as well as incorporate them
into graphic design projects like posters and
magazine covers. An absolute must for the
artistically inclined!

Using a state-of-the-art program, students will be
able to create their own 3D models, put them into a
3D environment, and bring them to life in a short
animation. The program lends itself towards 3D game
modeling, and allows students to create the video
game characters, objects, and scenes they’ve always
imagined. Learning to animate with 3ds Max and/or
Maya is a
stepping stone towards creating a real 3D video
game.

It all starts will a pile of metal, screws, gears,
wheels, and wires. It’s up to our students to take
these bare essentials and turn them into
competition-ready robots by the end of the week.
Every robotics class features a new challenge that
the robots must rise to meet, and with guidance from
their highly skilled counselor, the students will
design, build, program, and drive their robots into
battle! |

NEW in 2012! Last
year, PB Legends was an experiment in independent
study, allowing those who attended to choose their
own topics to work on each day. The result was a
truly inspiring collection of projects and an
excited, invigorated group of students. This year,
we bring PB Legends to every location as the
Director’s Lab. The only class taught by the camp
director, the select students in this class will
have the freedom to work on whatever they want, all
under the watchful eye of the most seasoned of the
camp’s staff.
NOTE: REQUIRES STRONG PRIOR PLANETBRAVO EXPERIENCE.

Summer Camp Themes 2012!
Please
note that Theme Weeks add a third dimension to our camp experience. They
don't replace any traditions from the past that you've loved, and
participation is not required.
Camp is still camp; students still choose one course to take during
their five days with us, but now projects, seminars, activities, and
even prizes may be enhanced by the theme of the week.

It would be irresponsible not to at least
have one week emphasizing the importance of Going
Green. Projects this week will have an environmental
focus and a healthy amount of Green Screen, all while
going above and beyond to conserve energy at every
opportunity. |

July

This theme may
sound like we just let the campers run the show, but
it's 4th of July Week, and INDEPENDENT EXPLORATION is
such an important skill for all of us to acquire.
Instructors will still teach all of the great lessons,
but special emphasis will be placed on exploration of
new programs and troubleshooting typical computer
problems we all face, with a healthy dose of Red, White,
and Blue thrown in for good measure. |

You can
hardly go 10 minutes without hearing music these days,
and this week, students will put an extra focus into
making that music themselves! Acid Music will
be featured this week, allowing students to add
soundtracks to projects, make music videos, and even gig
posters. No cover. You're with the band. |

Wake me up
just in time for Dream Week! Students will explore
everything dreamy, from nightmarish horror films to
sleep walking cartoons, even dream jobs and day dreams
of what they want to be when they grow up. There is no
limit to the power of imagination! In the words
of Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, Dream On! |

10 seconds left on the clock and it all
comes down to this. The pressure is on, the whole team
is counting on you. 3...2...1...WE WIN! We're
bringing the excitement of the sports field into our
classroom and filling up our projects with touchdowns,
homeruns, and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALS! |

Pack up your binoculars, fill your
canteen, and hop on in the open air Jeep as we take a
wild safari ride through the world of technology!
Exploration-themed games, movies, and animations lead
the charge as everyone gets in touch with their animal
natures. So whether you're a Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, or
even a Rafiki, you can be the king of the jungle this
week! |

Time to
kick it old school! We're going back to when
times were simpler to give our students a taste of the
"good old days". Projects will reflect or recreate ideas
from decades gone by with retro-art projects, Atari
style video games, and maybe even some John Hughes-esque
filmmaking. |
|
August 13 |

Long, long
ago in a galaxy far, far away on a Planet called Bravo,
there was Space Week. Students will create out of
this world projects, letting aliens and space beings
from far away places fill their video games, movies,
cartoons...maybe even the classroom! |
